Yesterday, Saturday .. we left Moab, UT for Golden, CO the weather was perfect. Not to hot, not to cold. We traveled Scenic Byway, Hwy 128 NE to Interstate 70 ... this area was home to many ranchers .. Some 7th generation. Many movies were filmed at many of these ranches.
We stopped for Breakfast at Red Cliff Lodge, where MANY films were filmed. Westerns, commercials and other modern movies, such as Thelma and Louise. What a beautiful setting for breakfast.
We passed Historic Dewey Bridge .. only there was no longer a bridge (suspension) due to a recent fire set by a young boy playing with matches.
It's been awhile since we've driven on an Interstate cause you see so little .. as we reached the higher elevations, just west of Vail, CO we could see stormy weather .. there was a little snow on the ground. As we got further east and higher elevation there was more snow on the ground .. until finally it was snowing .. and the temps were dropping .. I believe it got as low as 24 .. and I was in shorts.
I believe I got some beautiful photos (through the window of the truck, since it was to cold and windy to get out) and will get them sent soon.
We were going to drive a long day today .. well over 300 miles .. we pushed it .. not only on time but on fuel .. Mapping software said we had 24 miles to go, trucks fuel computer said 17 miles to empty (this was going into Golden, CO) but the fuel light hadn't come on. All we could do was laugh cause the information kept changing .. not how far we had to go but how much fuel we had left. At this point we were no longer on the Interstate but on a 2 lane road .. called mountain miles .. we arrived at our destination .. a VERY expensive campground filled up .. Paid 4.09 for diesel .. haven't paid so little in a long time .. Truck took 30 gallons and we have a 35 gallon tank ..
Our plans were to stay in Golden, CO for 2 days .. we are here to see the Colorado Railroad Museum and the Coors brewery, but the brewery is closed on Sunday's. No since staying here. We will leave in the morning with the trailer (a VERY VERY dirty trailer, thanks to the snow) visit the museum and head on east.
